PARKINSON’S PHYSIOTHERAPY SERVICES IN YOUR OWN HOME LIVE A FULL & ACTIVE LIVE WITH PARKINSON’S WITH THE HELP OF OUR SPECIALIST SERVICES
As providers of expert physiotherapy at home, the team at TOT West Midlands have helped many patients with Parkinson’s Disease continue to lead a full and active life after their diagnosis.
How does Parkinson’s Disease affect the body?
Parkinson’s Disease presents a variety of physical symptoms, including tremors, issues with speech, muscle cramps, rigidity, sleep, fatigue, bowel and bladder problems, issues with swallowing and eating, eye problems, dizziness and falling, low blood pressure, restless legs, and more. Not all patients will experience every symptom, and the severity of those symptoms can vary greatly between patients.
Does exercise help Parkinson’s disease?
Exercise and physiotherapy cannot hope to relieve all of those symptoms, of course, but it has been shown to have a positive impact on many patients’ day-to-day lives. It can increase flexibility and improve balance, both reducing the risk of a fall and allowing patients to move more smoothly and quickly. The right stretches and positions can help in the maintaining of good posture and flexible joints, as well as relieving stiffness and reducing the likelihood of muscle cramps.
How can a physiotherapist help?
A physiotherapist is able to assess the impact Parkinson’s is having on your movements and your day-to-day tasks, and offer advice and therapy, where appropriate. This may involve an exercise regime that you can complete at home, or low-impact exercises and sports like tai chi, yoga, or golf.
They can show you some effective stretching techniques to maintain suppleness in your limbs and muscles, as well as teaching you techniques to help make everyday movements (such things as standing up, sitting down, and walking) easier for you.
Physiotherapy can also offer relief from pain as a result of Parkinson’s, using a range of techniques, depending on the cause in your specific case. Additionally, they can teach you positioning, or other techniques, to improve your breathing, and to prevent issues with circulation.
At TOT West Midlands, we provide expert physiotherapy at home in West Midlands. If you or a loved one are suffering from Parkinson’s Disease and would like to know more about the services we offer, get in touch with a member of our friendly and professional team today.
