Rehabilitation Specialist Wins NHS Contract to Deliver Services to Reduce Length of Hospital Stay
Wokingham-based Therapies on Thames has been awarded an NHS contract to deliver specialist pre-discharge occupational therapy and physiotherapy treatment to elderly inpatients with the aim of safely reducing the duration of hospital stays. Working with Southern Health CCG and Alton Hospital, the Therapies on Thames team will help to facilitate patient flow from an acute care setting, to community care, and finally to patients’ homes after discharge.
Therapies on Thames was awarded the contract following a proactive review of the discharge planning process by the Alton Hospital team, who were keen to explore new and innovative ways to return patients to their homes as quickly and safely as possible. Therapies on Thames will be committing two full time occupational therapists and two full time physiotherapists to the multi-disciplinary team, and will work with up to 40 patients at the community hospital, many of whom will be over the age of 65.
Director of Rehabilitation at Therapies on Thames Raj Senniappan commented:
“We are thrilled to have been awarded this contract at Alton Hospital, and are passionate about supporting the NHS and social services in providing the best possible care to elderly patients. Our team is looking forward to sharing their knowledge and experience with our NHS colleagues to help reduce the length of stay for patients whilst providing comprehensive occupational therapy and physiotherapy services to promote safe recovery.
We are very grateful to Southern Health CCG and the team at Alton Hospital for this opportunity and look forward to meeting our new patients.”
