Charities and Benevolent funds

One of the positives of working with a charity is the overwhelming sense of driving change. It can be stimulating and rewarding work, with a real sense of fulfilment. The work is value-driven, prioritising ethics over profit so you always know you are supporting a good cause and helping the lives of others. We are proud to deliver services to charities throughout UK. At Therapies on Thames, we strongly believe that we have to give it back to our elderly population and society from what we gain through our service. We have partnered with WADE day centre and Parkinson’s Care and Support UK (PCSUK) to provide Parkinson’s specialists home visit Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy service for their customers in Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

We have partnered with WADE day centre to develop and provide one stop shop ( care and therapies) for our elderly population in Wokingham and surrounding boroughs. Wade provides a safe, caring and stimulating environment where members can come and meet old friends, make new ones, and have a good, nourishing midday meal, freshly cooked by our kitchen staff.

Wade is also aware that there are many elderly people caring at home for an equally elderly partner, and we are pleased to be able to offer them respite so they can leave their loved one for the day, knowing that they will be safe and well cared for.

Our excellent team of trained carers who, as well as looking after the varied daily needs of the members, arrange numerous activities such as seated exercises, flower arranging, quizzes and bingo. There is also entertainment, especially musical, which is very popular. We have two minibuses (purchased through very generous legacies) which do a door-to-door service for people who cannot make their own way to the Centre.

There is a weekly hairdressing service and a podiatrist comes fortnightly. Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy service are also available with the aim of making WADE as one stop shop for care and therapies for our elderly population .

Parkinson’s Care and Support UK is the only UK charity which focuses on Holistic Health, Wellness, Care, Complementary and Alternative treatments and therapies to improve life with Parkinson’s and to help people live better for longer.

Although we fund non-pharmaceutical research into how we can slow down, reverse or even prevent the onset of Parkinson’s, we are mindful that thousands of people living with the condition need support today. This charity is all about positivity and being proactive about health and wellbeing. People with Parkinson’s do not need pity or sympathy. They need to be understood, given clear and unbiased information, services and care that will enable life to be lived to the fullest.

We believe that in order to live your best life to the fullest, a multifaceted approach is needed and therefore a holistic healthcare plan should be in place for every person with Parkinson’s from diagnosis to end of life.

We provide free specialist exercise classes, respite care, visiting care, home-visit neurological physiotherapy and occupational therapy as well as information and support. We are also launching the first ever CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) Helpline for people with Parkinson’s who also suffer from anxiety or depression. Our work DIRECTLY improves the quality of life of people affected by Parkinson’s today, not tomorrow.
