Success Story: How Our Care Home Partnership with Benson House Helped Resident Rosemary Regain Confidence
Through our ongoing partnership with Benson House Care Home in Wallingford, we’re seeing firsthand the real benefits of integrating physiotherapy into daily care. This collaboration is an excellent example of how Therapies on Thames is helping improve the lives of residents, staff, and families by providing tailored physiotherapy services that support residents’ physical health and well-being.
Helen, our dedicated physiotherapist, visits Benson House every week and has quickly become a valued member of the care team. As part of the admissions process, Helen conducts initial physiotherapy assessments for every new arrival. This enables us to provide additional insight when crafting the personalised care plans for each resident, ensuring we meet their unique needs from the start.
One of the residents benefiting from this approach is Rosemary. Rosemary had experienced a fall and was struggling with walking, using a walker for support. She was anxious about the prospect of falling again and had lost confidence in her ability to walk independently. During her initial assessment, Rosemary shared that she hoped to walk to her daughter’s car and visit her home again, something she used to do regularly.
Helen developed a personalised treatment plan with these goals in mind, incorporating exercises and balance techniques tailored to Rosemary’s needs. With Helen’s support, Rosemary engaged fully in the sessions and made impressive progress. She moved from using the gutter frame to walking independently with her four-wheeled walker, and soon she was able to walk to the dining room several times a day with confidence.
Rosemary and her daughter are thrilled with the results. “The physiotherapy sessions have helped restore my confidence in my own ability,” Rosemary said. “I’m even walking outside again in the gardens, which I used to do independently most days.”
This partnership not only supports Rosemary’s progress but also provides valuable benefits to the care team at Benson House. Helen’s time at the home includes leading group activities focused on improving balance, delivering staff training on therapeutic handling, and conducting falls risk assessments for residents. By building a strong rapport with staff, residents, and families, Helen ensures a seamless connection between physiotherapy and person-centred care.
We are proud of our continued partnership with Benson House and look forward to helping more residents achieve their goals with the support of Therapies on Thames. Our work is just one example of how physiotherapy can make a real difference in improving mobility, confidence, and overall well-being.
